Two PhD student openings, of course with full financial support:), starting Fall 2015 in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech.
You will have the exciting opportunity to conduct cutting-edge, high-quality research across the boundary of thermal science, nanoengineering, advanced/novel materials, renewable energy, condensed matter physics, and electronic engineering. Research areas include (but not limited to): nanoscale heat transfer, solar/thermal energy conversion and storage, thermal management of micro/nanoelectronics, and thermal phenomena in biological systems.
Prior experience in the related areas is not a must. However, solid physics and mathematics background is required. Particularly, students with experience or strong interest in one of the following areas are highly encouraged to apply:
1) Density Functional Theory, and/or Monte Carlo Simulations;
2) Optics.
If interested, please send your CV (including GRE and TOFEL scores) and transcript to Prof. Zhiting Tian (Tsinghua Alumni) at zhiting@vt.edu. Thank you.
P.S.: The Mechanical Engineering Department at Virginia Tech is ranked 16th and 17th out of all mechanical engineering departments in the U.S. in undergraduate and graduate education, respectively, by the 2014 U.S. News and World Report.
