Dr. Mingyi Hong is an Assistant Professor from Iowa State University, The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IMSE). The department ranked 25th among all Industrial Engineering departments in the U.S., according to US News 2014-2015 version. Before joining Iowa State, Dr. Hong has been a Research Assistant Professor at University of Minnesota. Dr. Hong’s research area ranges from Wireless Communication, Signal Processing to Mathematical Optimization. His current research interest is to develop large-scale first-order optimization algorithms and specialize them in wireless networking, signal processing, machine learning, and healthcare. His work has been published extensively on top Journals such as IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, SIAM Journal on Optimization, Mathematical Programming, etc. For more information about Dr. Hong’s research, please visit his website at

Dr. Hong is looking for motivated students with strong mathematical and/or engineering background to join his group. Working knowledge on optimization, wireless communication, or signal processing is a plus but not a requirement. Depending on each student’s background, it is possible to put him/her in either the IMSE Department or the ECE Department.
