A Graduate Research Assistantship / Post-doctoral position is immediately available in Dr.Pelegri’s group, in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of Rutgers University. The candidate is expected to be interested in the areas of Finite element analysis, solid mechanics, biomechanics and multiscale modeling. The successful candidate will work on research for advancing Multiscale Mechanical Models for the Aging Brain. This is a collaborative project between UIUC and Rutgers to develop a rigorous multiscale mechanical model of the white matter of the aging brain starting from 3D Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) maps.
Successful candidate will enroll in the spring or fall semester of 2015.
Dr. Pelegri is Professor and Undergraduate Program Director of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. She is an Associate Fellow of AIAA and a Fellow of ASME. Her research interests include the areas of Experimental Mechanics, Smart Structures, Fracture Mechanics, Tissue Characterization and Modeling.
Qualifications:
-- Master’s degree (PhD for Post-doctoral applicants) in Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related field.
-- Strong background on computational mechanics and solid mechanics.
-- Ability to conduct independent research.
-- Experience with biomechanics or composite modeling.
-- Knowledge or experience with ANASYS, ABAQUS, or other FEA software.
-- Strong publication record in related field is a plus.
