Writer of the passage puts forward three possible usages of the great houses.In the lecture, however, the professor challenged all those theories.

Firstly, the lecturer casts doubts on the theory that the buildings function as a residential house for the lack of fire places.The professor mentions that the number of fire places in one of the biggest room can only satisfy 10 families while the room actually can contain over 100 families.

Secondly, professor points out the fact that people fail to uncover the maize and only find big containers instead of the maize containers,which contradicts the view of the reading that the great house may be used for storing food.

Moreover, as the lecture indicates,chances are that plots discovered in the remains may be regular trashes for meals from the construction workers rather than plots in which foods are served during some special ceremonies.The professor demonstrates that not only the plot but also many other construction materials are excavated,including sands,stones that are not used in ceremonies,the Pueblo Alto.Consequently,the theory from the passage that the great house is a ceremonial center does not make sense.

Generally, the statement of the reading material is untenable because of those unbelievable evidents above.
