Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Young people nowadays do not respect their teachers as much as they did in the past


Nowadays, it is remarkably common that you can see a teacher explaining some ideas in the class, while certain students are taking a nap in the same classroom. It cannot be ignored that people gradually attach more importance to education. However, I subscribe to the notion that the youngsters at present do not respect teachers as they did before.

First and foremost, it is certain sorts of students that do not show any respect to teachers. Take some prominent students as an illustration. They master such self-learning skills that they do not have to depend on teachers to acquire curricular knowledge. Not only are they able to have a good command of knowledge and figure out a proper structure by burying themselves into the textbooks for just a few days, but also they possess spare energy and time to accumulate extra-curricular knowledge. They do not regard teachers as helpful since they almost learn nothing from teachers, actually. What's more, there exist young people who do not consider studying as serious. Therefore, it is beyond peradventure that they do not have to respect their teachers.

Simultaneously, some teachers are not worth respecting owing to their behavior. On the one hand, confronting with some students whose families have magnificent power or wealth, some teachers tend to be partial to them. As a consequence, these students will become more and more arrogant and begin to despise both teachers and other students. At the same time, those students who are not treated well also start to disrespect the teachers. On the other hand, some teachers are so obscene that they are criticized by the society. In China, recently, some male teachers did something disgusting to young girls at the excuse of talking and teaching. These teachers absolutely would not gain respect from the young people, but just the opposite, antipathy.

Last but not least, the atmosphere of the society shows few hints of respect to teachers. As citizens are pursuing positions with high salary, they will not pay much attention to teachers because compared to engineers or businessmen, teachers' salaries are relatively lower. Owing to pragmatism, teachers are gradually ignored by most adults. As a result, young people surrounded by this atmosphere are not going to express their respect to teachers.

In conclusion, young people do not show as much respect to teachers as they did in the past, on which the whole society are supposed to reflect.
