The Computer Graphics and Interactive Media (CGIM) Lab at University of Houston (http://graphics.cs.uh.edu) has 2-3 new PhD student opens starting at Fall 2013. The main research schemes of the UH CGIM Lab are centered at computer graphics, computer animation, virtual human modeling and animation, and human computer interaction. Its current research has been funded by National Science Foundation, National Institute of Health, Texas Norman Hackerman Advanced Research program, Google, Nokia, and other various industrial sources.
The University of Houston (UH), one of the largest in the nation with over 40,000 students, is located in Houston, the 4th largest city and one of the most vibrant metropolitan areas in the United States. Classified as a top-tier research university in the United States by the Carnegnie Foundation, UH is one of the only three top-tier public research universities in Texas (UT-Austin, Texas A&M, and UH). According the latest World Research University Ranking published by the Shanghai Jiaotong University (http://www.shanghairanking.com/), the Computer Science Program at UH is ranked in the range of 51-75 in the world (top 50 in the US). In particular, the UH Computer Science Department’s research laboratories have joint programs with laboratories from the local medical schools and hospitals, NASA, and the local high-tech industry.
Applicants with solid CS and math backgrounds will be encouraged to apply. Also, students with relevant research experience in applied math, computer graphics, computer vision will be given favorable considerations.
