求各位给点建议，如何回复教授

在下今年大四，想申14fall的PhD，之前给教授的信里提到了能否用我本科做过的课题的思路来apply to教授现在program的研究，结果教授回复了：

Sounds reasonable but to be realistic you need to ask:  Do you have your own fellowship and research support? Anything we can dream of  is worth scientific pursuit if we can find a financial means to support ourselves and our own research expenses. Otherwise we can only do what others give us funds to do.

很焦虑啊，不知道教授是什么意思。。。。这算是负面态度的回应吗？求各位帮忙解析！
