有将Rochester定为dream school的小盆友快来围观啦~

1.       Do you have minimum requirement on the TOFEL and GMAT score?
There is no minimumrequirement for either-
MBA: GMAT middle 80% is 620-720, Average is 680, TOEFL median is 104
MS: GMAT middle 80% is 590-740, Average is 683, TOEFL average is 104-TOEFLsub-scores for each section are expected to be in at least the mid-20’s.
While there is no minimumscore required, admission is extremely competitive with many well-qualified candidatesapplying for a small number of seats in each program, so we do expect studentsto prepare ahead of time to ensure they do their best for the exams.
The application is aholistic review of each component, and while the GMAT & TOEFL play animportant role in the review of the application, they are not the sole determiningfactor for admission, and no specific minimum or maximum scores determine youradmission outcome.

2.      Among Resume, Test Score, School record, Essay, Recommendation,Interview, can you tell us which the most important factor is? Can you listthem from the most important to the least important?
Becauseof the high volume of applications, we do not list one particular area of theapplication that is more important than the rest.  The application review is a holistic processthat involves a first review of all parts of the application and if candidatesare then invited to complete an admissions interview, that conversation willplay a significant factor in the final admissions decision.  The Admissions Committee looks closely at allfactors, and one notable addition that can help international candidates iscross-cultural experience – which could include any or all of the following: studyingabroad; living and working abroad; visiting other countries; cultural immersion.

3.      What’s the percentage for Chinese students to get the scholarship?
Scholarship support isavailable to both U.S. and international students, however it is highlycompetitive and typically only available for candidates whose overall profile(both academic and work experience, as well as subjective performance in theAdmissions interview) is significantly above the existing norms.  We strongly encourage students to considertheir b-school studies as an investment in education toward their overallcareer success, and to prepare all needed funds ahead of time prior tonotification of scholarship award.

While scholarship support iscompetitive throughout all deadlines, over funding is very limited to those whosubmit an application after the January 5th deadline.

4.      What are the unique characteristics of Simon compared to otherbusiness schools?
Quantitative focusthroughout all courses, utilizing an analytical economics-based approach tosolving real world business problems. Our FACt (Frame, Analyze, andCommunicate) curriculum is unique to our approach in the classroom, and thetypes of skills that our students have when they graduate.

Top faculty who achieve consistenttop ratings from Bloomberg Businessweek, extremely accessible to students given our personalized approach to aninteractive classroom setting-but also highly involved in current businesstopics & research-producing the Journal of Financial Economics.

Overall the graduate businessschool enrollment across all degree programs (MBA, MS and PhD) is just under1,000 students, with most class sections having 40-80 students in a classsize.  Our students have the ability to participatein class and have a dynamic classroom experience without getting lost in thecrowd.

Very international studentbody in both the MBA & MS classes- approximately 20 countries represented acrossour MS programs, and for the MBA it is closer to 30 different countries andalso a variety of professional & cultural backgrounds.  This makes for an ideal learning environmentfor a global business education and a future alumni network that reflects therealities of the global workplace.

5.      What do you think makes the students at Simon be proud of the most?
Rigorof academics-our students are trained to handle all problems thrown at themtheir way, with the ability to work on a job. Our graduates work side by side with alumni from many other top MBA andMS programs and consistently have a reputation to successfully execute strongon-the-job performance in their technical skills.

Close-knit community that spans across students, faculty, & staff.  Highly collaborative environment thatencourages taking on new challenges and the opportunity for thinking outside ofthe box-if you have an idea whether it’s for a new club, a guest speaker, or aclass project, the environment at Simon is encouraging and helps you stand out.

6.      What courses would you prefer the prospective applicants to takebefore coming to Simon?
MBA-comes from many different backgrounds. There is not a set of prerequisites but classes including statistics, accounting, economics, and an introduction to calculus can be helpful tocomplete prior to the start of the program.

MS in Finance & MS in Accountancy: most students come from that specificundergraduate major or concentration.
MS in Marketing & MS in Management: have diversity of backgrounds butusually a business concentration or minor.

It is important to note that the curriculum for all programs is highlyquantitative, and students will be expected to have strong analytical skills tobe successful in their academics at Simon.

7.      Does Simon have any particular academic development plan in thenear future?
Wehave most recently invested in additional course sections that are designatedfor MS students-only.  These classes meanthat most MS classes are separate from the MBA classes for a more customizedclassroom experience that best allows students to build and foster strongrelationships with the faculty and each other.
Academic advisors are alsoassigned to each student for planning and course selections throughout theyear.
In addition we have recently launched 3 new graduate degree programs: MS inBusiness Analytics, MS in Pricing, and the 1-year MBA.

8.      How many campus job events does Simon hold every year?
Thereare several Simon-specific off-campus recruiting events in NYC and Chicago anda number of MBA job fairs where Simon students attend along with candidatesfrom other business schools.  We alsohold individual visits for some of our top hiring companies to visit Rochesterfor a company presentation and interviewing event.  Our Career Management Center utilizes both onand off-campus events along with online job postings from our corporatepartners to assist students in their internship or full-time employment search.

9.      What kind of career development support does Simon have?
In the past 18 months, Simonhas made three business development trips to mainland China (primarily focusedin Beijing and Shanghai), where our Career Management Center (CMC) team has metdirectly with HR and company hiring managers to identify career opportunities forour students.  We have significant supportfrom our successful alumni in China as we develop and foster these professionalrelationships.

There are two types of support that the CMC offers – some counselors focus on functionally-specificadvice and coaching to students depending on their area of concentration suchas Marketing, Finance, Technology/Operations, Accounting, Consulting, etc.  There is also more general advising that isavailable - including resume formatting, interview practice, how to network, and related job-search skill development. We also have the CMC Library offering different resources to help each studentto research companies, learn about particular career paths, and ultimately securean internship or full-time position.

It is important to note thatwhile the Simon School Career Management Center provides many services andprograms to support the internship or full-time job search for our students(and desires a successful outcome), it is ultimately the responsibility of eachof our graduate students to lead the effort and activities related to the jobsearch process.

   10. What'sthe enrollment rate of Chinese students for each of Simon’s program?
There are over 100 studentsfrom China enrolled across all of our full-time MBA and MS programs thisyear.  We have strong student supportthat has created a strong professional and cultural network of fellowclassmates, with organizations at the University of Rochester including ChineseStudent & Scholar Association and the Chinese Students' Association (CSA)and the Pacific Basin Forum within the Simon School.

   11. Isoverseas experience or fulltime work experience a huge plus in the application?
Yes – overseas experience canbe advantageous if you can effectively demonstrate how it has increased youroverall cultural & professional awareness.

Full-time work experience is also important as it used to assesswhat a candidate will bring to the MBA or MS program (for classroom orsmall-group discussions and interactions). It is also relevant to assessing potential for success in thepost-graduate school job search.
