导师介绍：
周项敏博士现在就职于澳大利亚皇家墨尔本理工大学（RMIT University）计算机学院任讲师（相当于北美的助理教授）。同时她也是澳大利亚国家国家计算机研究中心和皇家墨尔部理工大学联合实验室（NICTA/RMIT Data Analytics Lab）的核心成员。周项敏博士于2008年毕业于澳大利亚昆士兰大学。在加入墨尔本皇家理工大学之前，在澳大利亚联邦科学院（CSIRO）先后担任博士后和计算机科学家的研究职位。她先后领导了三个重要课题的研究，并在国际顶级会议(SIGMOD， ICDE， ACM Multimedia)和杂志(VLDB Journal, TKDE, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia etc)发表三十多篇国际学术论文。她也担任多个顶级会议（ICDE， ACM Multimedia）的评委和顶级杂志（VLDBJ， TKDE ，TMM， WWW etc.）的评审。主要研究领域包括：
1．社交网络数据分析：包括：social data modelling, social event detection, social recommendation, social media streams.
2. 多媒体数据库管理：包括：multimedia data recommendation, multimedia data similarity search, multimedia data storage and indexing, multimedia information retrieval， multimedia cloud data management， multimedia streams.

The School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW University, Australia, has one available PhD scholarship for an outstanding candidate for 3 years. This PhD research position is funded by a recently awarded Australian Research Council (ARC) project, which aims at developing innovative techniques and a set of software tools for effectively and proactively discovering and recommending resource in the Internet of Things. Possible research topics include, but not limit to recommender systems, big data analysis in the Internet of Things, elastic provisioning in cloud computing and sensor networks.
The PhD research student will be performed under the supervision of Dr. Lina Yao (http://www.linayao.com/) from School of Computer Science and Engineering, UNSW, Australia, with access to other collaborating research teams in Australia, Singapore, Europe, USA and China.
The stipend of the scholarship is $25,406 per annum (tax exempt) for 3 years, plus travel funds for attending conferences. The selected candidate will also receive a tuition-fee waiver.
We are looking for a highly-motivated, dedicated candidate who meets the following requirements:
• has an Honours or Masters degree in the area of Computer Science or related discipline with outstanding grades.
• shows evidence of research ability - e.g. an honours thesis, a minor thesis, publication(s), and a well-developed preliminary research proposal, developed under the guidance of the supervisor;
• has strong interest in one or more of the following areas: data mining, cloud computing and machine learning, database, statistics, data mining, sensor networks/RFID, Web services;
• has strong programming skills in one of C/C++, Java and Python.
• has solid maths background
• has proficient English skills, particularly in writing and speaking.
