Agree or disagree? Schools should use computers as tool of education for children aged 4 to 7.
Owing to the development of computer science and technologies, rapid proliferation of computers occurs among all the society for office works and education. Although some schools has introduced computer-based education to children aged 4 to 7, I subscribe to the notion that it is not suitable for students within this age range to use computera as a tool to study.
Children can get easily addicted to computers and lose communication skills. In China, Apple productions become more and more popular and widespread. During busy period, parents use iPad, considered as micro-computer, as an alternative to release them from parenting. Their children can play games or even touch the screen with various gestures for fun without having to call their parents for water or chatting. However, a negative long-term comes gradually and unexpectedly: Children are not willing to response to surrounding parents and friends even if something important happens. To make things worse, more children have difficulties chatting with people in a fluent and organized way. The reason is easily revealed: Children are so addicted to electronic devices that they lost critical opportunities of practicing communication with people. As a result, computer-based learning can turn out to make children computer-addicted and lack of communication practice during growing up.
Simultaneously, some contents from computer can hurt their mental health. While gambling games and pornographies from computers are like attractive but poisonous food, children can be like rats. When a rat is approaching attractive food, it is too tempted to generate a objective judgement of the rationality of food availability. Once it bites the food, it will get sick. In a similar manner, children are not mature enough to make rational judgement about whether to accept and go further the temptation from computers. Gradually, since they are affected by those negative contents, they tend to imitate those behaviors. In the extreme case, they can commit crimes in the future.
Last but not least, radiation from computers can have negative effect of children's physical health. According to a recent survey by Columbia university, 72% of the people say they and their chidren get headache and uncomfortable feelings after using or sitting beside computers. Some professors even point out radiation is responsible for the physical hurt to human.
To conclude, as computers are harmful to chidrens' communication skills, physical and mental health, it shouldn't be encouraged that schools use computers as education tools.
