The department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Arizona has multiple Ph.D. RA openings and one Postdoc position starting from Fall 2015.
The candidates for the postdoc position are preferred to have a strong background in information security, applied cryptography and privacy, especially with expertise on security of outsourced data and computation, differential privacy or data mining/machine learning. Solid system implementation/programming skills, and experience with parallel processing such like MapReduce will be a plus. The candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in ECE or CS before he/she starts working at University of Arizona.
For the Ph.D. student applicants, the successful candidates are expected to work on exciting research areas in cyber security, including: security and privacy of cloud computing and big data, security of cyber-physical systems, mobile and wireless network security. Preferred candidates should be self-motivated, responsible, and have the curiosity and determination to explore the path to develop himself/herself into an outstanding researcher. Candidates with either EE, CS or other relevant backgrounds will be considered, and an earned Master degree is preferred. A solid background in either of the following will be a plus: wireless communications/networking, security/cryptography, data mining/machine learning, optimization, game theory/control, or strong system implementation skills. Previous research experience is a plus but not necessary. The department of ECE at the University of Arizona enjoys a prestigious and highly ranked graduate program. Currently, its Computer Engineering program ranks 31st in the U.S. according to USNews. Its Electrical/Communications/Electronics program ranks 36th according to USNews. The department has over 30 faculty members and 6 IEEE Fellows. It is currently establishing a multi-disciplinary "sensing, processing and security" research center, where Prof. Li will be part of. The city of Tucson, AZ has a population of 1 million in its metropolitan area, which is second largest in Arizona (after Phoenix), and is also known as the "optical valley". It is 108 miles south of Phoenix (1.5 hours’ drive), and has its own airport.
