ETH Zurich is one of the leading universities of the world with a strong focus on science and engineering. In 2011 it established the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) in collaboration with the National research Foundation (NRF) of Singapore to do interdisciplinary research on pressing problems. In collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Singapore Management University (SMU), SEC is undertaking a research programme on "Future Resilient Systems", providing an opportunity for about 40 PhD students and 25 PostDoc researchers to get a PhD degree and/or to strengthen their research skills in an inspiring cross-disciplinary research environment. Within this framework we are announcing the following job opening.
PhD Position – Hidden Interdependencies
We are looking for one PhD student for the module "hidden interdependencies". This module will investigate using statistical and mathematical methods to analyze the dependency relationships between critical infrastructures. This module is led by Asst. Prof. XU Huan of the department of Mechanical Engineering of NUS, Prof. SUN Defeng and Prof. TOH Kim‐chuan, both from Department of Mathematics of NUS. The student is expected to be working closely with all these three faculty members during his/her PhD study, which will eventually lead to a PhD degree to be conferred by NUS.
Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in ECE, CS, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field, good mathematical foundation and skills, and good programming skills. Fluent spoken and written English is needed. Applicants have solid knowledge in the area. Research ability and potential demonstrated by good publication records is highly valued. At last, applicants are highly motivated and self‐driven, eager to learn new tools and new methodologies across different disciplines.
