Professor in the lecture questioned the the view which the passage mentions that the online encyclopedias are less worthy than the traditional one by reputing three reasons given by the writer.
Firstly, contrary to the statements in the passage that there exists more errors in the online encyclopedias , professor argues that errors in online encyclopedias are more easily to be corrected compared to the printed encyclopedias. She discusses that there is no perfect traditional encyclopedia off line and it is likely that the mistakes in the printed one are able to be revised after decades.
Secondly, the lecture opposes the opinion in the reading that original text are more likely to be distorted in online encyclopedias by putting forward that two strategies are applied to protect the online encyclopedias from the malicious fabricating of contents. One is that crucial parts are forbidden to changed and the other is that some editors will monitor those change, which, consequently makes the what in the online encyclopedia more valid and safe.
Lastly, the passage states that the online encyclopedias covers too much for people to find out the importance in the text, however,it is not the case.Compared to what writer believes, the professor maintains that experts cannot help to make the decision on what is important, which results in the failure to reflect the diversity of people's interests.Unlike the problem traditional ones suffer, there is no worry for the space regarding to online encyclopedias and so that the diversity of the topics sufficiently satisfy people's interests which contributes to the strongest advantage of online encyclopedias.
As a result, the reasons for the less values of online encyclopedias than the printed one is untenable when compared to what professor demonstrates. |
