Two Ph.D student positions with financial aid (TA/RA) are open in the department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Merced.  Top candidates can be considered for a Chancellor Fellowship.  

Research topics:  Memresistor for the next generation of memory,   heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) system for next generation of hard drive, and mass and energy conversion and transport in rechargeable batteries.   

We are looking for creative, enthusiastic and self-motivated candidates who are passionate and experienced in energy system, energy storage, information storage hardware (memory and harddrive).    Background in mechanical engineering, thermal sciences, electronic engineering, chemical engineering, aerospace engineering, applied mathematics, applied physics and prior experiences in one or more of these areas are highly desirable.
