The early recruitment scheme for graduate studies starting in 2015 at The Department of Computer Science at HKU (HKU CS) now invites applications from outstanding undergraduate students and master students studying in premier universities in mainland China. The faculty members of HKU CS include many internationally renowned scholars in diverse fields of Computer Science, such as Algorithms, Bioinformatics, Computer Forensic, Computer Vision and Graphics, Database and Data Mining, Network, Systems, and Software Engineering. Details:
1. Your application should include a CV in English, an optional research statement, and other supporting documents, such as transcripts, class ranking, proof of English proficiency, and certificates of academic achievements, all preferably in English. The official TOEFL or IELTS score is not needed at this stage. Please indicate THREE research areas of interest in a prioritized order in your application. Once your application is well received, we will send you an ID of six digits in three working days . Please include this ID in your future communication with us.  
Note: The research statement is used to assess your research ability. It should contain your research ideas and plans pertaining to some specific problems, and a survey of some research papers. You are encouraged to indicate three areas of interest, and contact a professor in HKU CS in your area of interest for assistance in preparing this document. For example, you can ask the professor’s advice about which papers to read. You should complete the research statement independently without copying sentences from existing papers.
  
2. The application period will be between 25th April 2014 – 2nd September 2014, with TWO interviews:
1st deadline: 5pm, 25th April, 2014  
Interview in 5-10 May, 2014
2nd deadline: 5pm, 2nd September, 2014  
Interview in 8-12 September, 2014
Please apply to one of the TWO interviews, not both, whichever fits you better.  Shortlisted applicants will be arranged for an interview in a designated city in the Mainland. We will arrange a seminar about our research areas before the interview. You can attend our seminar even if you have not applied for the interview. Details about the venue and time of the interview will be released later.
  
3. Selection criteria include mainly academic records, research ability and potential, communication skills, and English proficiency. Offers will be made to successful applicants soon after the interview.  
  
4. All successful applicants will be provided a scholarship of HK$168,000 (and up to HK$240,000 for selected candidates) annually during the period of study (4 years for Ph.D. study and 2 years for M.Phil. study).  
  
5. DEADLINE: Email your application to gradappl@cs.hku.hk, before either of the two deadlines (25th April, 2014 and 2nd September, 2014). Applications received after 25th April, 2014 will be considered for the second interview.

香港大学计算机科学系“2015年研究生提前招生计划”现诚邀内地重点高校的优秀本科生、硕士生申请入学。计算机系科研实力强大、师资力量雄厚，在算法理论、生物信息学、计算机视觉与图形学、数据库和数据发掘、计算机网络、计算机系统及软件工程等各领域均有很多国际知名学者。详见我系主页：http://www.cs.hku.hk/。
  
申请要求：
  
1. 申请需提交英文简历、研究陈述书（可选）及其它英文证明材料，包括成绩单、班级排名、英语能力证明和各类学术成就证书。当前无须提交正式托福或雅思成绩。请在申请材料中按优先序说明三个研究兴趣方向。收到申请的3个工作日内，我系将向申请人发送6位数字的申请号。请在联络我系时包含此申请号。
注1：香港大学计算机系计划招收约30名2015年入学的博士或硕士研究生。因竞争激烈，将只有学术成绩特别优秀的申请人获邀参加面试。比如，内地本科申请人预期应在排名前20的内地大学相关专业中名列前10％；拟申请博士学位的硕士研究生预期应表现出较强的科研能力与研究成果（如学术论文）。
注2：研究陈述书用于评估申请人的研究能力，应包含申请人对某些研究问题的设想与计划，以及的相关学术论文的综述。申请人可说明三个研究兴趣方向，并联络该方向的我系教授帮助准备本材料，比如征询教授关于阅读学术论文的建议。申请人应独立完成研究陈述书，切勿抄袭论文原句。
  
2. 申请时间为2014年4月25日至2014年9月2日。面试时间如下：

请酌情申请两次面试之一，初审入选的申请人将在内地指定城市进行面试。我系将在面试前举办讲座，介绍各研究方向，欢迎所有同学参加。具体时间地点另行通知。
  
3. 录取标准主要包括学术成就、研究能力与潜力、交流能力和英语能力等。录取结果将在面试后很快公布，也希望录取的同学能尽快确认予以接受。我们将视情况为每位同学确定接受录取的截止时间。
  
4. 申请成功者在学习期间内（博士生4年，硕士生2年）每年将获得“计算机系研究生奖学金”（DPF）168000港币（特别优秀的博士生每年将获得奖学金240000港币）。博士生申请者还可申请“香港博士研究生奖学金计划”（HKPF）。
  
5. 截止时间：请在两个截止日期前（2014年4月25日和2014年9月2日）将申请材料用电子邮件发送到gradappl@cs.hku.hk。在2014年4月25日后收到的申请将考虑为第二轮面试。
